St Andrews Heritage Museum and Gardens at 12 North Street is set in a charming 17th century house and garden, a stone’s throw from St Andrews Cathedral and St Andrews Castle. Our museum is in the oldest settlement of St Andrews and is one of the earliest domestic dwellings in the area. Focusing on the story of the Town and its people from circa 1800, our Museum and Gardens are unique. Our displays showcase social, working and domestic life in St Andrews through fascinating objects that have been gifted by the public and Trust members for over 60 years. The Museum is still closed due to its redevelopment project, and we are planning to re-open in late summer. In the meantime, we can offer from the spring onwards (May) a guided walking tour led by our volunteers around the east end of St Andrews. The tour focuses on themes about the beginning of St Andrews (i.e. the Cathedral, Reformation, Castle, tourism, fisherfolk) right up to the present, the stories of Ladyhead ( a former fishing village), where our museum was once 4 rooms for 4 fisher families and the social history of St Andrews. The tours are usually £15 per adult but we can offer a discount to cruise passengers, and charge £10 per person. The tour should last no longer than an hour to 1 hour 30 minutes. If folks are looking for small group guided tours and are interested in a unique perspective of one area of St Andrews, then St Andrews Heritage Museum can be considered.
