In the spacious streets of Edinburgh’s New Town, few addresses were more sought after than what we now call The Georgian House. In an era of war and highwaymen this home provided grace and splendour – bewigged nobles would take dancing lessons here, and throw feasts, and recline in sumptuous bedrooms. The House’s collection tells the story with artefacts such as wine bowls, silverware, and a medicine cabinet full of potions (or poisons?). Burrow into the bowels of the building and you’ll find cramped quarters, complex pantries, and the network of bells that linked the nobles above with the workers below.
