Dunfermline Palace and Abbey is well worth a visit.
The stunning abbey was built by King David I of Scotland in honour of his mother the saintly Queen Margaret.
Since its foundation in 1072 the abbey has seen witness to evolving Christian tradition.
King Robert the Bruce and seven other kings of Scotland are buried in the abbey and prove a popular attraction.
It is thought that there was always a royal apartment in the abbey but King James VI had an impressive new palace built after the Reformation.
There is a gift shop if you wish to take home a souvenir.
