St Andrews Cathedral dominated the medieval church in Scotland from when it was built in the 12th century right up until the Protestant Reformation in 1560.

Now ruined, it was Scotland's largest medieval church and the seat of Scotland's leading bishops.

The cathedral was built on a site which has been used for worship since the 8th century when it is said the relics of St Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland, were said to have been taken there.

There are spectacular views from St Rule's Tower.
